The sheets are extremely slick so untreated sheets will not allow colored pencils to adhere. Fortunately, I had a piece of sandpaper lying around the house to scratch the sheet with. It was relatively simple to do, but I would think a child would have difficulty. Once the sheets are prepared they look just like shrinky dink sheets. These sheets are much cheaper than the ones you can order from Klutz. To me it is worth the little extra work but others may prefer to pay the extra cost for sheets that are already prepared. Also, be careful when cutting out your designs because the sheets have a lot of static and cling together tightly. (Fine grit sandpaper, very simple, easy to do) The nice thing about them is that you can use them with permanent markers and the end result comes out pretty clear instead of opaque like standard Shrinky Dinks. However, you can find sheets of pre-sanded shrinky dink sheets at your local craft store (rhymes with Michael's) for about $6 for 10 sheets.So this is a great product if you want the crystal clear sheets to use with permanent markers. If you're using colored pencils and you're okay with using the pre-sanded sheets, you could get a better price. (At time of this review, this product was going for $7+ for 6 sheets) I haven't had any problems with any of the sheets curling in the oven. If you're worried about that, place a piece of cardboard, silpat or a brown paper bag over the dinks before you bake them. |
