XLarge is the size of a standard composition book from grade school ( roughly ). Take the time to look at the dimensions in the descriptions.The cover of this style is more durable than standard poster board stock, but it is not firm cardboard like the composition books. They do make a hardcover, but I am not sure if they do in this size and graph style. If you have never touched a moleskine, then at least try them, the paper can hold up to anything from a fountain pen to pencil, It has a nice weight to it, and it would hold up well to a three hole punch and a three ring binder. One of these days I will hole punch all of my notebooks and put them in binders, but I am personally adverse to that much structure.
