She was fascinated by it and started using it almost immediately. It takes a little practice to get the hang of it and learn how much ink to use each time, but it's fun. The quill comes with the nib already cut and a packet of powered ink. There are directions on how to use it and a few historical notes about quill pens. I cannot begin to tell you how many thousands of these I have packed to ship during the short year and a half that I worked for Mr. Richard Gray Sr. President and Owner of Historic America.It was my first "real" job, and I was fasinated with the hours of work that went into the making of each pen. Mr. Gray (who later became my step-father) would personally sort through thousands of feathers, keeping the quality quills and getting rid of any broken or damaged quills. As we worked (I did the computer work for him, he didn't like computers), he would tell me all sorts of things.
